Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 2026

FPT — FootballPersonalityType (“FPT”, “we”, “us”, “our”) is committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, how it is stored and processed, and what rights you have over it. This policy applies to all users of the FPT platform — players, coaches, and club administrators.

FPT is operated from the United Kingdom and complies with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. We are the data controller for all personal data processed on the Platform.

1. Data We Collect

Account data

When you register for FPT, we collect: your name, email address, date of birth, role (player or coach), and — for players — your position and the club code used to join a club. If you register via Google OAuth, we receive your name and email address from Google.

Questionnaire responses

For player accounts, we collect your responses to the Big Five personality questionnaire (numerical ratings on a 1–5 scale for each question). These responses are used solely to calculate your personality trait scores and generate your profile.

Personality profile data

We store the outputs generated from your questionnaire responses, including: trait scores (Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, Pressure Response), archetype name and description, footballer comparison, core strengths, growth zones, and extended profile narrative. All profile versions are retained when you retake the questionnaire.

Club and branding data

For coach and club administrator accounts, we store club name, club code, primary and secondary brand colours, and any logo or badge images uploaded to the Platform.

Usage data

We collect standard technical data about your use of the Platform, including IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, and time spent on pages. This data is used for security monitoring and Platform improvement. It is not linked to your personality profile data.

2. Legal Basis for Processing

Under UK GDPR, we process your data on the following legal bases:

  • Contract performance — to provide the FPT service to you under these Terms of Service
  • Legitimate interests — to monitor for misuse, improve the Platform, and maintain security
  • Consent — for players under 16, where explicit parental or guardian consent is required before questionnaire completion (see Section 4)
  • Legal obligation — where we are required to retain or disclose data by applicable law

Personality questionnaire data constitutes special category data under UK GDPR (specifically data revealing psychological characteristics). We process this data on the basis of your explicit consent, given when you voluntarily complete the questionnaire.

3. How We Use Your Data

We use your personal data solely to operate and improve FPT. Specifically:

  • To generate, store, and display your personality profile
  • To make aggregated, anonymised squad analytics available to coaches within your club
  • To send you notifications relating to your account and questionnaire activity
  • To maintain the security and integrity of the Platform
  • To improve our questionnaire, scoring model, and profile generation over time using aggregated and anonymised data only

We do not sell your data. We do not share your personal data with third parties for commercial purposes. We do not use your data for advertising or profiling outside the FPT platform.

4. Age Restrictions and Children's Data

Players aged 13–15

FPT is available to players aged 13 and over. For players under 16, UK GDPR requires that processing of personal data — including special category data such as personality questionnaire responses — is carried out only with the consent of a parent or guardian.

Before a player under 16 can complete the questionnaire, FPT requires explicit parental consent to be obtained and confirmed. By confirming this consent on behalf of a child, the parent or guardian accepts this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service on the child's behalf.

Parents and guardians of under-16 players may exercise all data rights on the child's behalf by contacting us at privacy@footballpersonalitytype.com.

Players under 13

FPT is not available to individuals under the age of 13. If we become aware that a player under 13 has registered, we will delete the account and all associated data without notice.

What coaches can see

Coaches can view the personality profiles and trait scores of players in their club, including players aged 13–15. Coaches cannot see individual questionnaire question responses — only the outputs (trait scores and profile text) generated from those responses.

When viewing analytics that include players aged under 17, coaches are shown the following notice:

“Personality traits in players aged 13–17 are actively developing. Research shows Pressure Response is typically elevated and Work Ethic temporarily lower during early adolescence — this is normal and expected. Scores will evolve as players mature.”

5. Data Sharing

We share your personal data only in the following limited circumstances:

  • Within your club — your personality profile and trait scores are visible to coaches and administrators of the club you are attached to
  • Service providers — we use Supabase for database hosting and authentication, and Anthropic for AI-powered profile generation. These providers act as data processors under UK GDPR and are bound by appropriate data processing agreements
  • Legal requirements — where required by law, court order, or regulatory authority

We never sell, rent, or otherwise commercially exploit your personal data.

6. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or regulatory purposes.

Questionnaire responses and personality profiles associated with a deleted account are permanently and irreversibly removed. This includes all historical profile versions.

Where an account is terminated by us due to misuse, we may retain certain data for a period of up to 12 months for fraud prevention and legal purposes.

7. Your Rights Under UK GDPR

You have the following rights in relation to your personal data:

  • Right of access — to request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Right to rectification — to request correction of inaccurate personal data
  • Right to erasure — to request deletion of your personal data (“right to be forgotten”)
  • Right to restriction — to request that we restrict processing of your data in certain circumstances
  • Right to data portability — to receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format
  • Right to withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent (including for special category personality data), you may withdraw consent at any time. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal
  • Right to object — to object to processing carried out on the basis of legitimate interests

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@footballpersonalitytype.com. We will respond within 30 days. Where requests are complex or numerous, we may extend this period by a further 60 days and will notify you accordingly.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

8. Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your personal data, including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, row-level security on our database, and access controls that limit which personnel can access personal data. We review and update our security practices regularly.

In the event of a personal data breach that is likely to result in risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify you and the ICO as required by UK GDPR.

9. Cookies and Tracking

FPT uses only essential session cookies required for authentication and Platform functionality. We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or third-party analytics cookies.

10. International Data Transfers

Your data may be processed on servers located outside the UK. Where this occurs, we ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place in accordance with UK GDPR, including use of approved Standard Contractual Clauses or transfers to countries with adequacy decisions.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Where changes are material, we will notify you by email at least 14 days before the changes take effect. The current version is always available at footballpersonalitytype.com/privacy.
